Dear friends in Christ at Union Church—
Jesus tells us, “Ask and it will be given to you” (Matthew 7:7). It’s true! God wants us to ask for any good thing, and God promises to provide everything we need. Christians know this is true, because God indeed gives us all we need to live and to thrive. However, it is tempting for us to ask God for things but forget to offer ourselves in service to Christ. We can get too focused on what we get, and not focused enough on what we give. As US President John F. Kennedy once famously said, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” Christianity and citizenship share this concept in common.
Our theme for this year’s stewardship emphasis is Ask Not Only What God Can Do for You. This theme is from Mark 10:35-45, in which two disciples, James and John, ask Jesus to have places of glory in his kingdom. Jesus’ answer is complex, but essentially, he tells them that while they are thinking of what they’ll get, Jesus is thinking about what they’ll give. We are no different than James and John. We all belong to UC because of all the good we get from this beautiful fellowship. But there are times for us to also reflect on what we give. That’s the point of this year’s theme.
Our Consecration Sunday is Sunday, October 20. On that day, in the service, we will ask you to make your commitment, your pledge to UC for 2025. And then, after the service, we invite you to stay for a celebration luncheon for the whole congregation! That will be a time for us to enjoy beautiful Christian fellowship together, as we celebrate our blessings received, and our blessings shared.
Please sign up if you wish to join us for the celebration luncheon on October 20. There will be a Consecration Sunday celebration luncheon sign-up the next three Sundays. We need RSVP’s to plan for lunch on October 20. Call the office 787-726-0280 to RSVP.
Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good! (Psalm 107:1) Please participate with us as we offer our gifts and share in Christian fellowship on Consecration Sunday, October 20.
